2nd NCC ALUMNI MEET REPORT

     DATE      : 02.10.10
VENUE   : VELTECH Dr. RR & Dr. SR TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY,
                              AVADI, CHENNAI.
Here I am with the memorable minutes of the 2nd NCC alumni meet held in the premises of the VelTech Dr. RR Dr. SR Technical University on a very special day, the day on which a great soul peeped out into this world, the 2nd of October. The event which was scheduled to be a formal event transformed into a gala event but whatever we do, we do it in style. They all were there – from the senior NCC cadets of the first batch 2003 to the very recent 2009 batch. The whole management, our officers and the cadets were pleased to welcome the chief guest of the day Group Captain P.S Sanal Kumar.
The meet started with an introductory note on the special occassion of Gandhi Jayanthi followed by the NCC alumni association being the first in the nation and also about the NCC alumni meet going on. Next, as usual was the formal start of the event by praising the language Tamil, yes the Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The next on stage was the very beautiful performance by the dancers, Cdt. Lalitha, Cdt. Dhivya and Cdt. Vijay Elakkya. They not only enlightened the whole auditorium but also represented the role of NCC in country’s defence in their graceful dance.
The dance was followed by the multimedia presentation which left goose bumps on every individual’s flesh. And to everyone’s surprise the presentation was a 24-hour preparation by some of our cadets. The presentation included video speeches of some great dignitaries like our DDG Commodore Sartaj Imam, Group Captain P.S Sanal Kumar, Pathak, our Administrative Officer and P & S Major Jyothi. Their speeches were not only inspiring but also motivating.
All the dignitaries were welcomed to the dias to have their seat. Cdt. Sgt. Anu S Moorthy walked to the podium to welcome everyone present with her elegant welcome speech. She not only won smiles but everone’s hearts too. Next, it was time to honour our chief guest. Our respected chairman Prof. Dr. R. Rangarajan was requested to present a momento to our chief guest Group Captain P.S Sanal Kumar.
Our cadets were asked to welcome our honourable chairman Prof. Dr. R. Rangarajan, our vice- chairman Dr. Sakunthala Rangarajan, our beloved Managing Trustee Mahalakshmi Kishore Kumar and our dynamic director K.V.D Kishore Kumar. They were all presented with bright and beautiful flowers.
A journal is a collection of thoughts, words, innovation, imagination and efforts. Yes, our cadets had all these qualities which they blended together to produce a very different magazine. And the best thing about it is it was the outcome of hardwork of a few cadets who worked round the clock. Just 48 hours and it was ready, this also included the time they spent for another booklet which is a directory containing all the details of the alumni’s – NCC Alumni Cadet Handbook. It was time to release both these innovative creations of our cadets. Our chief guest and all the other dignitaries were requested to release the journal and the handbook.
Our chief guest Group Captain P.S Sanal Kumar is also an ex-NCC cadet. Having him amongst us was a privilege. His words on stage gave everyone inspiration and inculcated a sense of spirit to join defence and choose it as our career. His encouraging speech entered everyone’s hearts and minds. And the best part was that he was pleased to be a part of this program and said that he wished he were still a NCC Cadet.
Without a mother a function cannot function. Our beloved pro-chancellor, our mother Dr. Sakunthala Rangarajan showed her love on us with her words. She wished each one of us to come out with flying colours and blessed us to have a great future ahead.
Next was the most awaited moment of the day. The stars of the day, the alumni’s were called upon to share their experiences and views. One by one all the alumni’s walked on to the podium to share their thoughts, to motivate us and to wish us success. Their presence and words both made all of us feel privileged and proud. Each one had their own story filling the air with nostalgia. There was one more special person to share her views, the parent of Cdt. Vijay Elakkya, Mrs. Vijaya Vijaykumar. On the insistion of everyone present her father Vijaykumar also shared a few words. Being an ex-service man he had just to say that he has spent a part of his life serving the nation and expects each one of us to do so, but the air went silent and he earned everyone’s hearts and a standing ovation when he ended up his speech that he was one amongst those great warriors who went to the Kargil.
After all that nostalgic and fun filled event our beloved Managing Trustee Mahalakshmi Rangarajan shared her views about the event and she announced the names of some cadets who were cash reward for their efforts in bringing up the multimedia presentation and the journal. This in one way encouraged everyone to work hard and proved efforts always gives out a sweet fruit.
The event was so interesting that none of them present realized that it was time to wind up. The vote of thanks was given by LFC Manoj Mohan. The NCC song was beautifully sung by LFC Vineet, FC Lipika and Cdt. Gabriela Rajan. Everyone raised up for the NCC Song and the National Anthem.
This was only the official end of the program. Everyone had their lunch specially prepared for them. They shared their old stories, their new experiences with their friends and juniors. After the wonderful lunch, it was time to capture the wonderful moments and picturise them. Yes, the photo shoot, all the alumni’s clicked photos with their seniors and juniors and our officers.
Everyone present had a wonderful time and their feedback says that they would love to be the part of every year’s alumni meet.
